Addis Ababa – As Africa stands on the cusp of a revolution, driven by its young and dynamic population, the Panel of the Future is poised to play a pivotal role at this year’s Shape Africa Summit’s Town Hall.
The event has been organized by the Office of the Youth Envoy in partnership with the World Economic Forum and Global Shapers.
The 12-member Panel, comprising influential young professionals from diverse backgrounds, will participate in various sessions on the sidelines of the summit, which runs from November 15-16. The summit is themed « Upskilling for Africa Development. »
The Office of the Youth Envoy is pleased to champion such an assembly whose impacts must reverberate across the globe as they represent young African voices in advocating for a sustainable Future. Following their participation in New York during the Summit of the Future and the United Nations General Assembly, their gathering at the African Union is an African Moment to advance the attainment of the 2030 SDG goals, Agenda 2063 and to collaboratively push for the Pact of the Future actions to be a reality.
Overall, the Panel is committed to unlocking Africa’s potential by promoting sustainable development, innovation, and youth empowerment. Through their collective expertise and experience, they aim to provide a platform for African youth to engage in meaningful dialogue and drive positive change.
With 60-70% of Africans under the age of 35, the continent boasts of a burgeoning youth population. This demographic dividend presents a unique opportunity for Africa to leapfrog traditional development pathways and embrace a more sustainable future.
The Panel will concentrate on several critical areas, including:
• Education and Skills Development: Fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, while ensuring African youth acquire the skills necessary to compete in the global economy.
• Climate adaptation and Resilience: Promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources, reducing carbon emissions, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
• Youth Empowerment and Participation: Creating opportunities for African youth to participate in decision-making processes and amplifying their voices on issues affecting their lives.
The Panel of the Future urges African youth, policymakers, and stakeholders to join forces and unlock Africa’s potential, creating a brighter future for all.
Their contributions during the Town Hall at the SHAPE Africa Summit promises to advance the aforementioned objectives.
